Bailey founded John Bailey & Associates Public Relations in 1996 without employees or clients and grew it into one of the state’s leading firms.  His success as an agency leader culminated in the merger of JB&A with Lambert, Edwards & Associates Public Relations – Investor Relations in 2009, creating Michigan’s only statewide firm.   

In addition to his years of client service, John also has a long history of supporting the Detroit area’s professional, civic and cultural organizations.  He is a Leadership Detroit graduate and has been a director of the Detroit Regional Chamber, the Woodward Avenue Action Association and the Automotive Hall of Fame.  He has been a member of the Public Relations Society of Detroit for many years, was a board member for 12 years and its ethics officer for six years.  He was inducted into the PRSA Detroit Chapter’s Hall of Fame in 2006.

John’s book The Power of Ownership: How to Build a Career and a Business talks about always being true to your own personal and business beliefs and that “Honest is the Only Policy.”  His business successes lead him to be recognized by President George W. Bush in 2005.

Some of the highlights of John’s career include helping to grow Stroh’s beer from a small regional beer with two brands in eleven states in 1975 to third largest behind only Anheuser-Busch and Miller with distribution of 22 brands in 50 states in 1985.

In 1989 through 1992, he helped educate the American public to wear safety belts while driving in autos through a nationwide public relations campaign, seeing safety belt usage increase from about 10 percent in 1984 to more than 70 percent in 1992.  In the early 2000s, he and JB&A helped develop and execute a successful public relations campaign to eliminate smoking in public places in Michigan.

He was told he was too old age 57 to start his own business he did so anyhow and he built JB&A into one of the most respected and largest firms in Michigan serving a wide variety of firms within the automotive industry, healthcare, retail, public affairs, professional services and more.  JB&A also opened a successful office In Lansing to service clients there.

In addition to the PRSA Detroit Hall of Fame recognition John was also named “Communicator of the Year” by the International Association of Business Communicator’s Detroit Chapter and received career achievement recognition from Wayne State University’s Communication Department in 2012.

He now enjoys writing, reading, promoting ethics in business and life, golfing and spending time with wife Janet and his family at his northern Michigan home.
